STUDY: Exercise can prevent depression

This week new research was released from The Black Dog Institute which found physical activity can prevent depression.

The international team included researchers from The Black Dog Institute, UNSW Sydney and Western Sydney University’s NICM Health Research Institute.

The research found people who were sufficiently physically active were at 15 per cent reduced risk of developing depression. A significant number when we think about the number of people are currently experiencing issues with mental health in Australia.

The data was sourced from 49 studies around the world, involving 266,939 people.

It’s important to choose exercise that suits you.

As the study was carried out over a period of years, a big insight was the importance of choosing exercise you enjoy and can stick with.

The research comes as The Black Dog Institute are promoting their Exercise Your Mood campaign this May.
